Carolyn Rowe was born in San Jose, California in 1992. She began her college education at West Valley Community College and transferred to San Jose State University where she is currently working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Pictorial Arts. Carolyn works in many different mediums, ranging from clay to gouache, but her true love is acrylic paint. While she loves to paint anything she can, her favorite subject is portraits, especially of her friends and family. In her paintings, she does not seek to make them photorealistic, but rather capture the energy and personality of the people she is painting with a more expressive style. She is also very interested in the connections between people and nature, and seeks to explore this connection through her paintings by combining these elements together.
Carolyn’s art was first exhibited at a show at Willow Glen High School her senior year, and she has had paintings in many shows at West Valley College Art Gallery, including the Student Art Show in both spring 2012 and spring 2013, and the Dr. Seuss exhibit in fall 2012. Since 2010, she has designed, painted, and constructed sets for a non-profit’s summer camp, creating everything from jungles to deserts. In April 2013, Carolyn participated in the 25th Annual California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art, where she showed a working clay deer marionette. In 2014, she collaborated on the cover for Doe Parker’s debut poetry anthology, Becoming Doe.
